VISION
The WRDM aspires to build a safe and peaceful environment based upon sustainable social, economic and physical development, thereby providing a better life for all our people through an institution that exercises governance in a transparent and accountable manner.
MISSION
The WRDM shall engage in the exercise of cooperative governance to ensure the development of an environment that enables social, economic and physical development. This will be achieved through the implementation of an integrated development strategy for the West Rand and leveraging of developmental capital and related resources to maximise the opportunities for development in the region.

THE WRDM STRATEGIC PLAN
The WRDM has a 5 Year Strategic Plan and it consists of 5 strategies programmes .
The WRDM embarked jon an initiative to establish a municipal entity known as the West Rand Development Agency (WRDA), which will be used as a special purpose vehicle to manage and implement key strategic economic development projects in its area of jusrisdiction.
This initiative was made possible through funding by the WRDM, USAID and the Industrial Development Corporation and in partnership with the three local municipalities within the West Rand District. The primary role of the WRDA is to act as the economic development agent for the West Rand in so far as to stimulate, facilitate, implement and support economic development and job creation projects and initiatives that will contribute to the regional economic development.
A Growth and Development Summit was held in October 2006 at Maropeng, the theme was “ Bridging the Gap between the second and the first economy for sustainable development. The strategy, which aims to increase the socio-economic environment, identifying potential growth sectors, and providing alignment to existing growth and development strategies.
The Directorate Transport places emphasis on Transport Operational Plans such as management of service resources and compilation of transport contingency plans. Focus will also be placed on the development of the Leratong Node as regional transfer facility in support of a comprehensive public transport plan for West Rand. The development of the Amakhosi Soccer Stadium in Mogale City lends itself capable of becoming either a training facility and/or a Fan Park for FIFA World Cup 2010 and will also facilitate opportunities to expand the existing road network granting access to this facility.
The Directorate LED & Tourism has embarked on a project to star Grading of Tourism Accomodation Establishment in the West Rand Area in partnership with the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGSA)
