Community members of Greater West Rand Region were gathered in
their respective areas with the purpose of making inputs about
the 2016 vision of creating West Rand Unicity. The public
participation events took place over 4 days starting from 09
April 2013. On the 9thand 10ththe
Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) convened to hear and consider
the inputs of the community members of Westonaria and
Randfontein. The MDB was assigned to hear community inputs about
their proposal of amalgamating Westonaria and Randfontein into
one category B Municipality.

The Year 2012 was a
very important one as we celebrated the Centenary of the African
National Congress, the oldest Liberation movement in Africa
which turned 100 years old.
We should feel truly
privileged to have lived to see and be part of the celebration
of the centenary of the peoples’ movement.

On the 15th March 2013 the gender desk in the office
of the Executive Mayor and men from all walks of life and
sectors gathered at West Rand District Municipality, Imbizo Hall
to have a dialogue on how men can become more involved in
combating the scourge of women and children abuse. This will
ensure that the West Rand Region becomes the safest environment
to live in especially for Women, Children and people living with
disability

The WRDM in partnership with Gauteng West Department of
Education had an august occasion at Letsatsing Combined School
in Merafong. The purpose of the occasion was to thank all the
2012 matriculants that made the region proud. The occasion was
graced by the WRDM’s speaker and mayoral committee members,
principals of best performing schools and parents.

The Executive Mayor Cllr Mpho Nawa took a time out of his
schedule to visit all Directorates within the
municipality to engage and listen to employees on various
issues that affect them. The main purpose of the
mayoral’s visit was to inspire everybody to work as a
unit and do things differently in 2013. All of us have
to pull our socks and go an extra mile in executing our
responsibility. The Executive mayor emphasized that the
time of the municipality should be used for servicing
our communities and not for personal errands. All the
workers were reminded that they need to report at 07:30
and knock off at 16:00.

The West Rand District Executive Mayor, Cllr Mpho Nawa was
accompanied by the Speaker, Cllr Johanna Phiri the Chief Whip,
Cllr Sanele Ngweventsha and the Members of Mayoral Committee (MMCs)
dedicated a week of visiting high schools across the region at
the beginning of the school calendar year.Cllr Nawa was not only
accompanied by his cabinet, also the Randfontein Local
Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Sylvia Thebenare and her
executive members joined the district mayor at Randfontein
Secondary to also give the learners the message of support.

The WRDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Mpho Nawa gave
himself time during the festive season to feed the
disadvantaged. Cllr Nawa was assisted by the municipality’s
employees in ensuring that communities enjoy the festive season
accordingly. Cllr Nawa gave communities from the informal
settlements and rural areas in the greater Randfontein and
Westonaria food parcels and clothes.
