The  WRDM  in partnership with  Gauteng West Department of Education had an august occasion at Letsatsing Combined School in Merafong.  The purpose of the occasion was to thank all the 2012 matriculants that made the region proud.  The occasion was graced by the WRDM’s speaker and mayoral committee members, principals of best performing schools and parents. 

The learners were awarded trophies, certificates, cheques and laptops.  MMC for  Environmental  Management  Cllr  O.Caldeira who was the acting Mayor for the day,  emphasized  that the  ceremony  was  a moral  boost  and  encouragement  to  young  people  in West  Rand and that they must take  education  serious  by  doubling  their  efforts.  According to Cllr Caldeira the municipality is  very  proud  of  those  learners who did well  in their  examinations . Director  of the Department  of  Education Dr  Peter  Skosana  also  added that  indeed those  leaners  did  performed  very  well  and that he thank the District Mayor, Cllr Mpho Nawa for giving the department all the support they needed. 

Manager  in the office of the Executive  Mayor, Max Maxeke concluded by thanking everyone with the support and mostly to the learners with the excellent work they did in putting West Rand on the map.

The cheques  and  laptops were officially  presented  at  the  WRDM’s  1^st council  meeting,  where  top  five  learners  were  awarded  laptops and  R10 000 each,  the  second  top five were presented with  R3000 cheques  and  the third  top five were  presented  with  R2000 cheques.
