WRDM COMMEMORATES WORLD AIDS DAY
|
The WRDM councilors and officials were dressed in red and white in commemoration of World Aids Day. They commemorated this through a walk in the streets of Randfontein. The walk was arranged by the Municipality’s Directorate Health and Social Development, under the leadership of Cllr Pascalina Kgoleng. All the politicians and employees were welcomed by Public Safety Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) Cllr Buyiswa Xulu. In her speech, Cllr Xulu encouraged everyone to commemorate this day throughout the year, not only on one day. On behalf of the Executive Mayor, Cllr Olivia Caldeira congratulated the Department that organized the event and explained the importance of testing, as HIV/AIDS affects us all. According to Cllr Caldeira, the WRDM’s Directorate forHealth and Social Department has done HIV tests across the region through door to door programmes. She said she was happy that the response from the community was very positive and they were willing to be tested. Officials from different directorates committed themselves to testing as they felt that it should begin with them. They echoed the same sentiment as Cllr Caldeira that HIV affects us all.
