Executive Mayor, Cllr Mpho Nawa and the Speaker, Cllr Johanna Phiri took to the taxi ranks to highlight the 16 days of
activism against women and children abuse campaign. The two were
accompanied by male senior official in the institution.
Pamphlets were distributed to inform the community on the
importance of taking care of women and children. The
Mogale City and Randfontein Taxi Associations were more than
willing to work closely with the municipality in making sure
that women and children in this region are not abused.

Executive Mayor takes Orphans to the Zoo |

The Office of the WRDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Mpho Nawa organized
a visit for 330 orphans to the Johannesburg Zoo as an early
Christmas gift. The orphans were from different orphanages
around the West Rand viz. Mogale City, Merafong City,
Randfontein and Westonaria. Thirty three (33) centres were
identified and each centre was represented by ten kids. They
were accompanied by their caregivers. The trip was a success as
kids had so much fun and could not feel the rainy weather.

World Aids Day |

The WRDM councilors and officials were dressed in red and white
in commemoration of World Aids Day. They commemorated this
through a walk in the streets of Randfontein. The walk was
arranged by the Municipality’s Directorate Health and Social
Development, under the leadership of Cllr Pascalina Kgoleng.

Fun games for People with Disabilities |

The District Municipality’s Disability Desk, in partnership with
the West Rand Disability Forum, arranged games for people with
disabilities in celebration of disability month. The games were
held at Mohlakeng Recreation Center and were attended by more
than sixty people with disabilities from Mogale City, Merafong
City, Westonaria and Randfontein. The sporting codes that were
played at the games were morabaraba, moroba, draughts and diketo.

More than 100 leaders from different small sectors attended a
meeting with the Executive Mayor in November. The purpose of
the meeting was to discuss a progress report on the future
development of the region towards amalgamation of local
municipalities into a Unicity.

Christmas came
early for the elderly as they were pampered by the Executive
Mayor
The Executive Mayor of the West Rand District Municipality, Cllr Mpho Nawasucceeded in bringing together the elderly from
different racial groups, (i.e. Blacks, Whites, Coloureds and
Indians) to celebrate the Month of Elderly People. More than two
hundred elderly people attended the event that was held at Chief Mogale Community Hall in Kagiso

WRDM takes part in the
Transport Month’s Car Free Day
In
celebration of Public Transport Month, the WRDM held a fun walk
on Wednesday, 17 October 2012. This initiative is in support of
mobility by means of cycling and walking and to promote the use
of public transport. The event was organized by the WRDM’s
Department of Regional Development Planning and Environmental
Management. Officials and councilors came in numbers to support
the initiative.

People from all walks of life spent a day picnicking and dancing
to fine tunes to round off the fantastic Go West Fest. It was a
time enjoyed by all.
ONE the eve of Heritage Day, Mogale City's Coronation Park
became a haven of happiness, friendliness, music and more music,
and laughter. For it was the first Go West LIVE Music Festival
and masses of people descended on the lakeside to enjoy the
music and camaraderie.

the Krugersdorp Correctional Services, has proved to all and
sundry that his humane spirit towards female ex-offenders cannot
be surpassed as the offenders in question are just as human as
we are, subject to imperfection. The emotional event was
arranged by the Gender Desk in the office of the Executive
Mayor.

Two of the West Rand District Municipality’s interns have been
sent to France through the DBSA and SALGA internship programme.
The DBSA in partnership with SALGA sponsored a provincial
programme for interns from the municipalities’ programmes to
further their studies in France. Each municipality across
the province was asked to submit two names for this programme
with the aim of selecting two interns to represent Gauteng in
France.
