Staying en “Root”

 July 2007

Welcome to our very first tourism newsletter for the West Rand region – Staying en “Root”!

West Rand Tourism will be donning a “brand” new coat and embarking upon a dynamic marketing campaign to place our region, with its wealth of tourist attractions, firmly on the map for local and international visitors.

The West Rand District Municipality recognised that the tourism potential of this prime region, jam- packed with attractions, should be expanded and developed as increased tourism figures will assist in community development and will generate much needed and sustainable employment.

Funds are now available for prominent branding as well as for a spanking new, dynamic advertising/marketing campaign which will make a firm imprint of our colourful, multi-faceted region on the hearts and the minds of the people.

The brand is being developed by specialist branding company, Elements Advertising & Marketing, Chief Operating Officer, Phindi Mavimbela, even as we speak, and will be launched at a function planned for the latter part of this year. We will keep you updated on progress.

Laverick Media Communications (LMC) will be responsible for the new, dynamic advertising campaign which will be supported by regular articles in select media to keep the public constantly up-to-date with developments and special attractions. The campaign is comprehensive and even takes into account the tremendous possibilities for product owners around the 2010 Soccer World Cup. The LMC marketing team consists of Sonia Laverick, Wilson Malete (writer, traffic coordinator), Aletta Kotze (writer) and Thembi Ntuli (admin and bookkeeping).

We will be approaching Product Owners and other stakeholders from time to time to request buy-in for competition prizes, visitor reward programs, school and educational package, week-end breaks for highly select media editors, tour operator day visits etc., over the next twelve months to ensure that the West Rand region is an exciting place to see and to be seen.

The new brand combined with the marketing/advertising campaign will highlight the region’s many attractions and, with the co-operation of all stakeholders, the West Rand will be a world-wide hit!

Any suggestions, ideas, plans, news and developments are very welcome indeed.

We are firmly rooted in discovering new marketing opportunities for our region.

 Best regards until next time.

 Your marketing team.
