The five cooperatives who were the recipients of the equipment were overwhelmed by the gesture of the Municipality and the handover was huge success. The event was held on the 25 February 2016 at Bondesio Hall and the beneficiaries were from three constituent local municipalities, three from Westonaria Local Municipality, one Randfontein Local Municipality and another one from Merafong City.
The intervention made is for the second time and seen to make some impact to business community. The Cooperative Support Incentive Scheme need to be maintain as a program that is funded in order to provide assistance to businesses in the region. It is worth noting that we need to extend the incentive to individual businesses not only cooperatives because there is evidence that individual’s enterprises can create jobs and be sustainable than cooperative.
As was the case with previous beneficiaries, we will on continuous bases monitor and mentor cooperatives beneficiaries to ensure compliance with set standard which are in line with economic development. As a directorate, we view the initiative as a noble gesture to address the plight of Small, medium and micro enterprise (SMME’s) in the District. More over as an effective and efficient way to maintain and sustainable businesses who are struggling to be on their own because of lack of resources particularly finances.
