Keneilwe Manganya is a 24 year old female, hailing from Mohlakeng. She considers herself to be a young driven woman, who is hard working and willing to learn new things each and every day. She is currently deployed at the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) as a Town Planner under the Young Professionals Programme of the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA). She has held this position since the 7th of April 2014 in the Department of Regional Development Planning and Environmental Management of the WRDM.
Keneilwe has a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban and Regional Planning and completed her honours in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2013. Her degrees have exposed her to various situations related to development and urban planning such as working in teams and with communities. Her academic interest include find ways to tackle the housing challenges that are faced in South Africa as well as managing development through the provision of infrastructure and giving effect to policy in a sustainable manner within communities.
Many opportunities have come her way in 2014 and the recent opportunity is that she was awarded a scholarship from EUSA_ID to study a Master of Art in Development Management. She was excited to learn about the scholarship through the European Union’s website. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to attain academic experience in a different setting apart from South Africa. Furthermore, the scholarship will further assist in broadening her academic interests. As it is known, African cities face many challenges related to development and her goals for the future is to be able to take the knowledge gained through the mobility scheme and incorporate what she learns into the working environment in South Africa.
We as the West Rand District Municipality & Human Resource Department wish Keneilwe all the best during her studies in Germany and hope that she will represent West Rand and come back to plough the skills acquired there within our Region.
