We are very pleased to announce the 8th West Rand Tourism (WRT) Awards in 2015. These are the premium tourism awards that aim to reward and celebrate excellence across the tourism industry. They recognize and celebrate business owners, products and services that have displayed exceptional service and value for money to tourists visiting the West Rand.
We are also excited to inform you that we have taken all feedback, comments and suggestions from our past entrants into consideration and will endeavor to present a better and more prestigious awards programme for 2015.
Firstly, the West Rand Tourism awards endeavor to be aligned with the Lilizela Awards (Provincial Awards). This great news will enable our West Rand Tourism product owners to enter the West Rand Tourism Awards and then automatically be entered for the Lilizela Awards.
Nevertheless, it should be clearly understood from the outset that the West Rand Tourism Awards and the Lilizela Awards have different adjudication processes. Product owners do have the opportunity to win the West Rand Tourism Awards and go through to the Provincial Awards and also the National Awards. But as product owners you have the opportunity to win in the Provincial Awards even if you did not win at the Regional Awards, due to the fact that the Provincial Awards focuses on 80% customer feedback.
West Rand Tourism has kicked-off a new social media campaign and already started a new West Rand Tourism Facebook page. We have introduced our newly born West Rand Tourism mascot, Pandi the Eagle. The eagle was selected as an appropriate mascot for the West Rand due to the family of Verreaux’s (Black) Eagles which have been resident at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical garden in Roodepoort. The name, which was selected from a Facebook competition, is derived from the Zulu language. Pandi is short for Pandizwe – based on the Zulu words “izimpande” (= “roots”) and “izwe” (= “country / nation”).
As part of marketing for West Rand Tourism, Pandi the Eagle will fly all over the West Rand and tell people where he is and what he is doing. He will visit all Tourism Awards winners on a regular basis.
Benefits for entering the 8th West Rand Tourism Awards will include:
- Trophies and certificates to our winners;
- All entrants will automatically be entered into the Provincial Awards and product owners have a chance even to go through to the National Awards;
- Free marketing of all events, specials and promotions on the new West Rand Tourism Facebook page on a regular basis;
- Winners will also be promoted at tourism shows and exhibitions.
This annual award programme is aimed at promoting quality products and facilities that demonstrate high service standards, which will ultimately transform the West Rand into an internationally acclaimed tourist destination. The current tourism market is highly competitive and world-class performance is essential in order to enjoy global recognition.
The West Rand Tourism Awards represent the highest possible accolade of the West Rand Tourism Enterprise, celebrating excellence and encouraging continuous improvement in an increasingly competitive industry. The awards are instrumental in enhancing the West Rand’s image as a globally recognized tourism destination and increasing awareness of the tourism industry’s contribution to the region’s economic success.
Show your commitment to excellence! Enter the West Rand Tourism Awards Programme, an ideal opportunity to profile your successful contribution to the tourism industry.
The winners of the WRT Awards will be announced at the Awards Ceremony scheduled for the 29 June 2015.
